GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Presidents' Athletic Conference honored four Grove City College athletes with weekly recognition Tuesday afternoon.
The Grove City cross country teams produced a trio of award winners as senior
Cayla Lawrence (Mendon, N.Y./Honeoye Falls-Lima) earned Women's Runner of the Week while freshman
Josie Jones (Grove City, Pa./Grove City) captured Newcomer of the Week.
On the men's side, freshman
Carson Wilt (Hagerstown, Md./North Hagerstown) earned Newcomer of the Week.
Senior
Nathan Young (Street, Md./Homeschooled) won Men's Golfer of the Week after his performance Monday at the Grove City Fall Invitational.
Lawrence helped lead Grove City to a fourth-place finish last Saturday at the Lock Haven Invitational by taking eighth place overall and third among Division III runners in the field. Lawrence posted a time of 21 minutes, 55.4 seconds on the six-kilometer course.
Jones, meanwhile, placed 10th overall in a time of 22:09.9. She finished as the top freshman at the event, helping Grove City finish fourth in the team standings. The Wolverines finished first among Division III teams at Lock Haven.
Wilt placed 71st overall and fourth among Division III freshmen (26:39.1) on the eight-kilometer course Saturday at Lock Haven. His effort helped Grove City take 10th in the team standings.
Young earned medalist at the Grove City Fall Invitational by shooting a 2-under 70 at the Grove City Country Club, winning the event by two strokes. He carded five birdies during his round, including four on the back nine. Young helped the Wolverines to the team title with a 296, the team's lowest round since 2023.
The cross country teams return to action Friday at Lehigh University's Paul Short Run. Meanwhile, the men's golf team will compete in the Presidents' Athletic Conference Fall Championships October 12-13.
