STATE COLLEGE, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's golf team earned fifth out of nine teams at the two-day Penn State Altoona Invitational, which concluded Monday at Toftrees Golf Resort. Grove City finished with a team score of 708 over 36 holes. The Wolverines shot 358 in the first round, then combined for a 348 in the second round. 

Sophomore Emily Burling (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson) paced Grove City at the tournament by taking fourth place individually. She shot 78 in the first round, then followed with an 83, good for a 161. 

Senior Lauren Kardos (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) joined Burling in the top 10 by shooting a 170 (83-87). Kardos placed ninth.

Junior Gabby Kinneer (Mount Pleasant, Pa./Mount Pleasant) captured 19th place with a two-day total of 185. After opening with a 101, she shot a career-best 84 in Monday's final round. 

Sophomore Mackenzie Boley (Mogadore, Ohio/Field) earned 30th with a 196 (96-100). Junior Sydney Goettel (Churchville, N.Y./Churchville-Chili) rounded out the lineup by finishing 35th. She shot a 105 and then a 94, good for a 199 total.

Fifty women competed in the event. Saint Francis's Ellie Filer won the event with a 157 (79-78). York (Pa.) won the team title with a 672 total. Division II Seton Hill finished second with 683.

Grove City returns to action September 20-21 at Allegheny College's Kuhn Invitational in Meadville.
