STATE COLLEGE, Pa. -- Junior
Luke Gronbeck (Gibsonia, Pa./Eden Christian) earned third place overall with a 6-under 138 at the 36-hole Penn State Altoona Toftrees Invitational, which concluded Monday at Toftrees Golf Resort. Gronbeck shot 70 in the opening round and followed with a 68 for his final 18 holes.
He helped Grove City place 13th in the team standings with a two-day team score of 614 (304-310). John Carroll won the event with a team total of 562.
Junior
Will Nelson (Pittsburgh, Pa./Trinity Christian) earned 65th with rounds of 78 and 79, good for a 157 total. Senior
Tyler Derstein (Telford, Pa./Dock Mennonite) placed 72nd with a 160 (79-81) junior while
Seth Hartman (Harrison City, Pa./Penn-Trafford) finished 75th. Hartman opened the tournament with a 77, then shot 86, finishing with a 183.
Senior
Nathan Young (Street, Md./Homeschooled) rounded out the lineup by firing consecutive 82s. He finished 77th with a 164.
The tournament featured 84 men. Randolph-Macon's Charlie Wilkerson won the event with a 134 (69-65).
Grove City returns to action September 20-21 at the Allegheny College Kuhn Invitational in Meadville.
