LATROBE, Pa. -- The Grove City College baseball team wrapped up the 2026 regular season Saturday afternoon by splitting a Presidents' Athletic Conference doubleheader at Saint Vincent. The hosts rallied for a 5-4 victory in the opener while Grove City (19-16, 14-8) nailed down a 7-2 victory in Game Two.
Grove City owned a 3-2 lead in the second game after four innings before posting three runs in the top of the fifth frame. Senior first baseman
Colin Marinpetro (Imperial, Pa./West Allegheny) walked with the bases loaded, scoring freshman second baseman
Kyle Rhineberger (Perry, Ohio/Perry). Junior center fielder
David Chandler (Leesburg, Va./St. John's) scored on a sacrifice fly by junior DH
Dan Luko (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional) to give Grove City a 5-2 lead.
With two outs, junior catcher
Adam Weber (McKees Rocks, Pa./Montour) singled in junior right fielder
Caleb Backos (Troy, Mich./Bloomfield Christian).
Weber led off the eighth inning with a single and later scored on an error. The Wolverines then put two men on base in the ninth inning with two outs. Senior
Trey Wagner (Mars, Pa./Mars) cracked a pinch-hit single while Weber reached on a hit batsman. However, Grove City stranded the runners.
Marinpetro's single in the first inning scored Chandler. Backos scored Grove City's second run on Luko's fielder's choice.
Eight of Grove City's nine offensive starters had at least one hit in Game Two. Luko doubled while Weber finished 2 for 4.
Junior pitcher
Bryce Trischler (Mars, Pa./Shady Side Academy) earned the win by pitching 4 2/3 innings of scoreless relief. He struck out three while walking one and allowing two hits. Freshman
Caz Ostrowski (Essex, Mass./Covenant Christian) started and pitched 3 1/3 innings. He allowed two runs. Sophomore
Corey Veverka (Twinsburg, Ohio/Twinsburg) closed out the win by pitching a scoreless ninth inning.
Weber doubled and singled in the opener while Chandler and Marinpetro both had a pair of hits. Grove City took a 1-0 lead in the second inning when junior third baseman
Treyton Sarvis (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg) doubled with two outs and scored on a Rhineberger single.
Backos led off Grove City's three-run third inning with a triple. He scored on a Marinpetro single. Weber later doubled in Marinpetro while a sacrifice fly from senior shortstop
Raymond Stierer (Sewickley, Pa./Eden Christian) scored freshman DH
Johnny Reyes (Hubbard, Ohio/Hubbard).
Saint Vincent broke through with a run in the bottom of the third, two tallies in the fifth and then a pair of runs in the bottom of the ninth inning.
Freshman pitcher
Noah Mackie (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) started and pitched five innings. He allowed two runs and four hits. Senior
Kenny Lavrich (Franklin, Pa./Cranberry) pitched 3 2/3 innings of relief and yielded two earned runs. Lavrich (5-3) permitted four hits.
Grove City will be the No. 5 seed in next week's six-team double-elimination conference tournament. The Wolverines will face No. 2 seed Washington & Jefferson at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in the opening round of the tournament in Washington, Pa. W&J's Ross Memorial Park is the predetermined tournament site. Grove City split a conference doubleheader April 18 at W&J.
