Successful Senior Day for Wolverines

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Thirteen Grove City College men's lacrosse players scored goals Saturday afternoon to help vault the Wolverines (7-7, 6-0) to a 23-5 Senior Day win over visiting Saint Vincent (7-6, 5-2) in Presidents' Athletic Conference action at Robert E. Thorn Field. 

Senior attack Mac Faircloth (Greensboro, Pa./Page) fired in four goals to help pace the Wolverines' outburst while senior defender Sam Stevenson (Greenwood, Ind./Center Grove) scored a career-high three goals.

Senior attack Stewart McClain (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter Strasburg) and freshman midfielder Mason Lyons (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township) also recorded hat tricks. Senior Rigdon Greene (Marietta, Ga./Pope) scored twice.

The Wolverines also received goals from senior faceoff specialist Colton Lehberg (Rancho Santa Fe, Calif./Santa Fe Christian), junior midfielder Tyson Bui (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton), sophomore midfielder Ethan Binns (Saint Johns, Fla./The Bolles School), freshman attack Owen Edkins (Liberty Township, Ohio/Lakota East), freshman defender Griffin Fox (Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte Christian), freshman midfielder Jake Olson (Chesapeake Beach, Md./St. Mary's Ryken), freshman attack Jake Parker (Edgewater, Md./St. Mary's Annapolis) and freshman midfielder Tucker Saums (Greensboro, N.C./Northwest Guilford).

Faircloth and Lyons each assisted on three goals. Bui and Greene both recorded a pair of assists, as did junior midfielder Breck Peacock (Wayne, Ill./Wheaton Academy). Binns, Lehberg, McClain, Olson, Parker, Stevenson, senior defender Andrew Glasgow (Wooster, Ohio/Wooster), junior defender Nate Clark (Oakwood, Ohio/Oakwood) and freshman midfielder Caden Ryan (Reading, Pa./Schuylkill Valley) all had assists.

McClain gave Grove City a 1-0 lead 84 seconds into the game after receiving an assist from Bui. Ten seconds later, Glasgow assisted Olson's goal. Faircloth scored twice in the opening period while Binns, Fox, Greene and Lyons also scored to help the Wolverines claim an 8-0 lead after 15 minutes.

Grove City outshot the Bearcats, 60-21, including a 39-10 edge in shots on goal. Grove City finished with 13 turnovers while Saint Vincent had 23 turnovers. 

Lehberg won all 16 of his faceoffs and matched a career high by picking up 13 ground balls. Glasgow had seven ground balls while Faircloth and Stevenson both collected four ground balls. 

Senior goalie Tyler Gladstone (Marriottsville, Md./Marriotts Ridge) made five saves to earn the victory.

Grove City recognized its 10-man senior class Saturday: Faircloth, Gladstone, Glasgow, Greene, Lehberg, McClain, Stevenson, defender Samuel Busby (Doswell, Va./Patrick Henry), midfielder Boden Davidson (Scottsdale, Ariz./Scottsdale Christian) and senior defender Aidan Nosal (Parker, Colo./Eaglecrest). 

The Wolverines will visit Bethany at 7 p.m. Wednesday in conference action.
