Cloud 'Nine' for Wolverines

PITTSBURGH --  The Grove City College women's lacrosse team extended its winning streak to nine games by earning a 9-3 victory Wednesday night over host Chatham in Presidents' Athletic Conference action at Graham Field.

Grove City's defense limited Chatham (6-3, 2-2) to seven total shots while also forcing 28 Chatham turnovers.

Offensively, junior midfielder Jess Robinette (Mohnton, Pa./Twin Valley) fired in four goals to pace the Wolverines while sophomore midfielder Mia Mygatt (Silver Spring, Md./Brookewood) scored twice. Senior attack Jackie Rowell (Laurel, Md./Reservoir) chipped in a goal and two assists while junior attack Gwen Shilling and junior midfielder Tori Stevenson (Butler, Pa./Butler) also scored.

Robinette scored twice on the power play in the first quarter to help Grove City (9-3, 5-0) grab a 4-2 lead. Her unassisted goal with 6:51 left in the second quarter gave Grove City a 5-2 lead at halftime. Rowell and Robinette both scored in the third quarter while Stevenson's score and Mygatt's short-handed goal in the fourth quarter sewed up the victory.

Stevenson caused three turnovers while freshman midfielder Maddie LaForte (Waterford, Conn./Waterford) caused two turnovers. Robinette, Stevenson, senior defender Reese Hasley (Cheswick, Pa./Deer Lakes) and freshman defender Sophia Happel (South Hamilton, Mass./Hamilton Wenham Regional) all picked up three ground balls.

Senior goalie Mia Gallagher (Mogadore, Ohio/Archbishop Hoban) made four saves to preserve the win. Grove City outshot the Cougars, 21-7. Grove City finished with 23 turnovers.

The Wolverines will host league rival Saint Vincent at 5 p.m. next Tuesday at Don Lyle Field.
