Grove City edged in tri-match

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's volleyball team dropped a pair of narrow decisions Saturday in a home tri-match at the Grove City College Arena. Presidents' Athletic Conference rival Chatham pulled out a 20-25, 25-23, 25-22, 25-18 win over the Wolverines in the opener. 

Visiting Nazareth (11-10) outlasted Grove City in a five-set non-conference finale, 25-18, 24-26, 18-25, 25-21, 15-13.

Junior Carson Good (Jeannette, Pa./Penn-Trafford) led Grove City (8-12, 1-3) with 11 kills against Chatham while classmate Andrew Kessler (Jeannette, Pa./Penn-Trafford) had nine kills. Senior Tieg Malcolm (New Philadelphia, Ohio/Homeschooled) contributed eight kills.

Junior setter Craig Fair (Stevens, Pa./Cocalico) distributed 36 assists. 

Malcolm led the defense with five total blocks. Good and Kessler both had two blocks. Freshman libero Evan DiMalanta (Medina, Ohio/Highland) recorded 14 digs while sophomore Keith Otto (Irwin, Pa./Penn-Trafford) added nine digs. 

Junior Max Gianneski (Butler, Pa./Butler) led Grove City in the nightcap with a match- and career-high 17 kills. Good posted nine kills. Fair set 31 assists while Otto served two aces. 

Malcolm chalked up nine total blocks while Good furnished seven blocks. Kessler contributed five total blocks. DiMalanta accumulated a team-leading 18 digs while Fair and Otto each had eight digs. 

Grove City will visit conference foe Hiram at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
