GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Five Grove City College players scored goals Saturday but the host Wolverines dropped a 10-8 decision to Baldwin Wallace in non-conference action at Robert E. Thorn Field.
Senior attack
Rigdon Greene (Marietta, Ga./Pope), junior attack
Davis Schneider (Winfield, Ill./Wheaton Academy) and junior attack
Sawyer Strong (Westfield, Ind./Westfield) all scored twice for Grove City while senior attack
Stewart McClain (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) and sophomore attack
Tyler Blazek (Las Vegas, Nev./Bishop Gorman) each added goals.
Baldwin Wallace (4-2) led 5-3 at halftime and extended the lead to four goals in the first 39 seconds of the third quarter. Schneider assisted back-to-back goals by Blazek and Greene as Grove City cut the lead to 7-5. Greene and Strong scored in the final 4:08 of the period, trimming the Yellow Jackets' lead to 8-7.
Greene also recorded an assist Saturday. Junior midfielder
Josh McDermott (San Juan Capistrano, Calif./Santa Margarita), freshman midfielder
Mason Lyons (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township) and freshman midfielder
Tucker Saums (Greensboro, N.C./Northwest Guilford) also tallied assists.
Senior faceoff specialist
Colton Lehberg (Rancho Santa Fe, Calif./Santa Fe Christian) won 13 of 16 faceoff opportunities and also picked up a game-high nine ground balls.
Strong, graduate student long stick midfielder
Samuel Busby (Doswell, Va./Patrick Henry) and senior defender
Sam Stevenson (Greenwood, Ind./Center Grove) caused two turnovers each. Baldwin Wallace committed 24 turnovers while Grove City finished with 21 turnovers.
Grove City outshot Baldwin Wallace, 48-30, including a 20-15 edge in shots on goal.
Senior goalie
Tyler Gladstone (Marriottsville, Md./Marriotts Ridge) made five saves.
Grove City will visit Kenyon next Saturday at 3 p.m. in Gambier, Ohio.
