NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- Six Grove City College women's lacrosse players scored multiple goals Saturday afternoon to help the Wolverines (8-3, 4-0) earn a 14-10 win at Westminster (5-4, 2-1) in Presidents' Athletic Conference action at UPMC Sports Complex.
Grove City, which jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first seven minutes of the game, extended its winning streak to eight games.
Junior attack
Gwen Shilling (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional) and junior midfielder
Jess Robinette (Mohnton, Pa./Twin Valley) both scored three times for Grove City while junior attack
Taylor Blythe (Mendon, N.Y./Honeoye Falls-Lima), junior midfielder
Tori Stevenson (Butler, Pa./Butler), sophomore midfielder
Mia Mygatt (Silver Spring, Md./Brookewood) and freshman midfielder
Avery Anderson (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) all scored twice.
Blythe added five assists while senior attack
Jackie Rowell (Laurel, Md./Reservoir) assisted four goals. Anderson and Stevenson also recorded assists.
Blythe, Robinette and Stevenson all scored even-strength goals while Shilling added a short-handed goal in the first quarter as the Wolverines grabbed a 4-0 lead with 7:47 remaining in the period. Anderson and Robinette then scored on the power play later in the quarter as Grove City led 6-2 after 15 minutes.
Westminster cut the lead in half with a pair of goals in the second quarter, but Blythe and Mygatt countered with goals to help Grove City reclaim its four-goal margin. Shilling scored with four seconds left in the half as Grove City held a 9-4 halftime lead.
Shilling and Stevenson both scored in the final five minutes of the fourth quarter to seal the win. Rowell assisted on both scores.
Mygatt and freshman defender
Gabri Hallam (Buffalo, N.Y./Clarence) both recorded five draw controls. Shilling had four draw controls.
Senior goalie
Mia Gallagher (Mogadore, Ohio/Archbishop Hoban) earned the win by making a career-high 12 saves. Westminster outshot Grove City, 32-31. Grove City earned a 17-15 edge in shots on goal.
Grove City had 14 turnovers while Westminster had 11 turnovers.
The Wolverines will visit Chatham at 7 p.m. Wednesday in conference action.
