Taylor Blythe (Mendon, N.Y./Honeoye Falls-Lima) and
Gwen Shilling (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional) each fired in four goals Saturday afternoon while senior attack
Jackie Rowell (Laurel, Md./Reservoir) matched a career high with three goals as the Grove City College women's lacrosse team earned a 16-11 road victory over Washington & Jefferson at Alexandre Stadium.
It is Grove City's sixth straight win overall.
The Wolverines also received two goals each from junior midfielder
Tori Stevenson (Butler, Pa./Butler) and sophomore midfielder
Mia Mygatt (Silver Spring, Md./Brookewood) in Saturday's victory. Junior midfielder
Jess Robinette (Mohnton, Pa./Twin Valley) added a goal and two assists.
Blythe led Grove City with five assists, giving her a season-high nine points. Stevenson added four assists while Shilling and freshman midfielder
Avery Anderson (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) also notched assists.
Shilling's power play goal with 1:32 left in the first quarter gave Grove City (6-3, 2-0) a 6-3 lead. W&J (2-3, 0-1) closed the gap to 7-6 by halftime and then tied the game in the third quarter on a goal by Bekah Meiklejohn at the 12:41 mark.
Robinette broke the tie by scoring at 6:31 after receiving an assist from Blythe. Rowell then scored twice in a 54-second span to give Grove City a 10-7 lead with four minutes left in the period.
W&J again pulled to within 11-10 two minutes into the final period but Grove City cemented the win with four consecutive goals. Blythe scored twice during the 4-0 blitz while Shilling and Mygatt also posted goals.
Robinette and freshman defender
Gabri Hallam (Buffalo, N.Y./Clarence) both picked up five ground balls. Hallam caused six turnovers and Anderson caused a pair of turnovers. Mygatt and Shilling both recorded six draw controls.
Each team had 29 total shots. Grove City posted 20 shots on goal while W&J had 18 shots on goal. Senior goalie
Mia Gallagher (Mogadore, Ohio/Archbishop Hoban) secured the win by making nine saves.
Grove City finished the game with 19 turnovers. The Presidents committed 20 turnovers.
Blythe now has 98 career assists. She is the program's all-time leader in that category. Hallam's 37 caused turnovers this year are already the No. 6 mark on Grove City's single-season leaderboard.
Grove City will host Allegheny at 6 p.m. Tuesday in conference action at Don Lyle Field.
