No. 10 York pulls away from Wolverines

SPARKS, Md. -- The Grove City College men's lacrosse team dropped a 17-9 verdict Saturday night to No. 10 York (7-1) in non-conference action at United State Lacrosse headquarters. York pulled away from Grove City by scoring seven goals over the final 10 minutes of the game.

Grove City trailed 10-6 after 45 minutes and then cut the lead in half on successive unassisted goals by junior attack Davis Schneider (Winfield, Ill./Wheaton Academy) and senior attack Mac Faircloth (Greensboro, N.C./Page). Faircloth's goal came with 12:15 left in the game. 

However, York scored its seven straight goals in a seven-minute span. 

Schneider and senior attack Stewart McClain (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) both scored a pair of goals. Senior attack Rigdon Greene (Marietta, Ga./Pope), junior midfielder Tyson Bui (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton), junior midfielder Breck Peacock (Wayne, Ill./Wheaton Academy) and sophomore Ethan Binns (Saint Johns, Fla./The Bolles School) also scored. 

Binns, Schneider and freshman midfielder Mason Lyons (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township) all had an assist.

York outshot Grove City, 45-28, including a 30-16 margin in shots on goal. Grove City had 23 turnovers while the Spartans lost possession 15 times. 

Senior goalie Tyler Gladstone (Marriottsville, Md./Marriotts Ridge) made 13 saves for the Wolverines. He also picked up four ground balls. Senior faceoff specialist Colton Lehberg (Rancho Santa Fe, Calif./Santa Fe Christian) collected a team-leading six ground balls. He won 9 of 18 faceoffs. 

The Wolverines return to Presidents' Athletic Conference action Wednesday night when they visit Westminster for a 6 p.m. clash in New Wilmington.
