Wolverines shut out Geneva in league opener

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Freshman midfielder Avery Anderson (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) fired in a career-high six goals Wednesday evening while five teammates also scored multiple goals to help the Grove City College women's lacrosse team to a 22-0 home win over Geneva in both teams' Presidents' Athletic Conference opener at Don Lyle Field. 

Junior midfielder Jess Robinette (Mohnton, Pa./Twin Valley) and freshman midfielder Maddie LaForte (Waterford, Conn./Waterford) both scored three times for Grove City (5-3, 1-0). Junior attack Taylor Blythe (Mendon, N.Y./Honeoye Falls-Lima), sophomore midfielder Mia Mygatt (Silver Spring, Md./Brookewood) and freshman midfielder Addy Porter (Jenks, Okla./Jenks) all scored a pair of goals. 

Senior attack Grace Forry (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield), junior midfielder Tori Stevenson (Butler, Pa./Butler), freshman midfielder Elliette Smith (Butler, Pa./Butler) and freshman defender Gabri Hallam (Buffalo, N.Y./Clarence) also scored for the Wolverines, who notched their fifth straight win and second shutout of 2026.

Stevenson also tallied a career-high six assists. Anderson added three assists, giving her a career-high nine points in the game. The nine points are the most for a Grove City player since Blythe's 10-point performance April 30, 2024 against Westminster. 

LaForte and Porter each chalked up two assists, as did sophomore midfielder Ella Krabitz (Catonsville, Md./Chapelgate Christian). Mygatt also recorded an assist.

Anderson scored three times in the first 4:14 of the game, then assisted on goals by LaForte and Smith. Stevenson then assisted Anderson's fourth goal with 22 seconds remaining in the first quarter. 

Blythe scored a pair of power play goals in the second period while Robinette scored two even strength goals as the lead swelled to 13-0 by halftime. Overall, Grove City scored nine goals while on the power play.

Grove City outshot Geneva, 49-3. The Wolverines held a 41-2 edge in shots on goal. 

Hallam caused five turnovers. Mygatt and Stevenson both caused three turnovers. Grove City harassed Geneva into 26 turnovers. The Wolverines finished with 16 turnovers. 

Porter recorded 11 draw controls while Mygatt had four draw controls. Mygatt led the Wolverines with seven ground balls. Stevenson collected six ground balls. LaForte and junior attack Gwen Shilling (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional) picked up five ground balls. 

Senior goalie Mia Gallagher (Mogadore, Ohio/Archbishop Hoban) made two saves to secure her second shutout victory of the season. 

The Wolverines will travel to conference rival Washington & Jefferson for a 1 p.m. clash Saturday in Washington, Pa.
