Four straight for Wolverines

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Junior midfielder Jess Robinette (Mohnton, Pa./Twin Valley) scored four times while classmates Taylor Blythe (Mendon, N.Y./Honeoye Falls-Lima) and Gwen Shilling (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional) both scored a pair of goals Saturday afternoon as the Grove City College women's lacrosse team captured a 9-7 victory at Buffalo State in non-conference play at Coyer Field.

Sophomore midfielder Mia Mygatt (Silver Spring, Md./Brookewood) added a goal for Grove City (4-3), which earned its fourth straight victory.

Buffalo State (3-2) held a 3-2 lead late in the first quarter but Blythe tied the game with 1:26 left in the period by scoring an unassisted goal. Grove City then took the lead for good by scoring three times in the first four minutes of the second quarter. Robinette assisted Blythe's tie-breaking power play goal at the 12:56 mark.

Fifty-three seconds later, Blythe assisted Robinette's first goal of the day. Robinette pushed the lead to 6-3 with an unassisted power play goal at 11:13. Mygatt's unassisted goal five minutes later gave Grove City a 7-4 halftime lead.

Buffalo State closed to within 8-7 but Robinette sealed the win by scoring unassisted with 2:08 left in the game.

Robinette finished with two assists. Senior attack Jackie Rowell (Laurel, Md./Reservoir) and junior midfielder Tori Stevenson (Butler, Pa./Butler) also recorded assists. 

Robinette and senior defender Reese Hasley (Cheswick, Pa./Deer Lakes) both picked up four ground balls. Hasley and freshman defender Gabri Hallam (Buffalo, N.Y./Clarence) each caused three turnovers. Hallam and classmate Addy Porter (Jenks, Okla./Jenks) both had three draw controls.

Senior goalie Mia Gallagher (Mogadore, Ohio/Archbishop Hoban) earned the victory by making eight saves. Buffalo State held a 21-20 edge in total shots while Grove City owned a 13-11 margin in shots on goal. 

Grove City finished the game with 27 turnovers. Buffalo State had 26 turnovers. 

Saturday's game marked the Wolverines' final tune-up for Presidents' Athletic Conference play. Grove City will host Geneva at 6 p.m. Wednesday in the league lidlifter at Don Lyle Field.
