GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Four Grove City College spring sports athletes earned Presidents' Athletic Conference weekly recognition Monday afternoon. Four different Wolverine sports programs produced an honoree this week.
Junior attack
Taylor Blythe (Mendon, N.Y./Honeoye Falls-Lima) earned Offensive Player of the Week in women's lacrosse. Junior pitcher
Abigail Meadors (Warren, Ohio/Champion) captured Pitcher of the Week recognition in softball while senior first baseman
Colin Marinpetro (Imperial, Pa./West Allegheny) earned Hitter of the Week in baseball.
The conference honored senior middle blocker
Tieg Malcolm (New Philadelphia, Ohio/Homeschooled) as its men's volleyball Defensive Player of the Week.
Blythe fired in three goals and added four assists March 2 in Grove City's 21-0 win over Marian in Clearwater, Fla. She then distributed five assists last Thursday as Grove City rallied from an early 4-0 deficit to down Clark, 13-6, in Clearwater.Â
Blythe leads Grove City with a dozen assists. She owns the program record with 87 career assists.Â
Meadors compiled a 3-0 record last week for Grove City (6-2) during the Wolverines' eight-game trip to Little River, S.C. The right-hander posted a 0.61 earned run average over 23 innings. She struck out 27 batters while yielding only 15 hits and eight walks. Opponents hit .179 against Meadors in her five appearances, which included three starts.
She opened the season March 2 by striking out 13 batters in a 3-2, eight-inning victory over S.U.N.Y.-Delhi. Meadors also batted .300 (6 for 20) during the week and knocked in six runs.Â
Marinpetro earned Hitter of the Week honors for the third straight week after hitting .500 (11 for 22) with two home runs, two doubles and eight runs batted in last week in five games at the RussMatt Invitational in central Florida. He posted a .577 on-base percentage and an .863 slugging percentage, good for a 1.440 OPS.
Marinpetro launched two homers and drove in six runs against Clark and then went 3 for 4 with a double in an 8-7 victory over John Carroll. Marinpetro, the 2025 Player of the Year in the conference, is hitting .565 (26 for 46) this year.
Malcolm averaged 1.56 blocks per set in the Wolverines' tri-match Saturday against Chatham and Nazareth. He recorded five total blocks, along with eight kills, against Chatham. Malcolm then tallied nine total blocks in the five-set nightcap against Nazareth.
Malcolm leads the conference with 79 total blocks and a 1.20 blocks-per-set average.Â
The Grove City women's lacrosse team hosts Fredonia State at 5 p.m. Wednesday. The softball team will visit Carlow for a non-conference doubleheader March 20. Grove City's baseball team travels to Greencastle, Ind., for a Saturday doubleheader at DePauw. Meanwhile, the Grove City men's volleyball team travels Tuesday to conference foe Hiram. That match will begin at 7 p.m.
