BETHANY, W.Va. -- Four Grove City College women's basketball players scored in double figures Saturday afternoon but the Wolverines' comeback effort at Bethany fell short as the host Bison pulled out an 81-71 win in Presidents' Athletic Conference interdivisional action at Hummel Field House.
Sophomore forward
Alexis Hudson (Watsontown, Pa./Warrior Run) paced Grove City (13-8, 7-5) with a career-high 20 points while senior center
Meredith Sherrerd (New Braunfels, Texas/New Braunfels) and junior forward
Brooke McCoy (Irwin, Pa./Hempfield) both fired in 12 points. Senior guard
Reese Hasley (Cheswick, Pa./Deer Lakes) added 11 points.Â
Grove City trailed 22-13 after one quarter and faced a 44-31 deficit in the second quarter. However, a McCoy three-pointer and two free throws from senior center
Emma Ulmer (Northumberland, Pa./Northumberland Christian) slashed the lead to 46-39 by halftime.
Back-to-back layups from Hasley and Hudson pulled the Wolverines to within 74-71 with three minutes remaining. However, Bethany (15-6, 10-2) closed the game on a 7-0 run.
Junior guard
Bethany Thompson (Exeter Township, Pa./High Point Baptist) pulled down six rebounds for Grove City while also adding nine points. Hasley added five rebounds. Bethany outrebounded Grove City, 41-26.Â
Grove City shot 43 percent (26 of 61) for the game while Bethany finished 28 of 60 (47 percent) from the floor.
Hasley recorded six assists while Sherrerd assisted three field goals. Hasley also had three steals. Grove City finished with 10 turnovers whereas Bethany committed 11 turnovers.Â
Lindsey Best led Bethany with 20 points.Â
Grove City will host Allegheny (7-5 PAC) in North Division action Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. in the Grove City College Arena.Â
