BETHANY, W.Va. -- Seniors
Mike Christenson (Oakton, Va./Trinity) and
Kyle Randle (Willowick, Ohio/Eastlake North) both fired in 22 points Saturday afternoon but the Grove City College men's basketball team dropped a 93-81 road decision to Bethany in Presidents' Athletic Conference interdivisional play at Hummel Field House.
Junior center
Austin Johncour (Sewickley, Pa./Avonworth) added a career-high 19 points on 8-of-9 shooting for the Wolverines, who shot 56 percent (19 of 34) from the field in the second half.Â
However, Bethany shot 56 percent (33 of 59) from the field for the game, including a 17-of-32 effort from behind the three-point line.Â
Bethany closed the first half on an 18-2 run, taking a 51-35 lead into the intermission. Randle scored the first 10 points of the half, however, and a free throw from junior center
Owen Wolf (South Lyon, MIch./Firebirds H.E.A.) trimmed the lead to 51-46 four minutes into the second half.
Johncour recorded eight rebounds while Christenson and Randle each had six rebounds. Grove City out-rebounded Bethany, 32-30.Â
Junior forward
Caleb Haller (Delaware, Ohio/Marion Hawks) led the Wolverines with three assists. Each team had 10 turnovers.
Overall, Grove City shot 48 percent (31 of 65) for the game.Â
Ryan Reasbeck led Bethany with 20 points.Â
Grove City will host Allegheny at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in Presidents' Athletic Conference North Division action.
