Reese Hasley (Cheswick, Pa./Deer Lakes) matched a season high with 19 points as the Grove City College women's basketball team rolled to a 94-66 victory at Geneva in Presidents' Athletic Conference North Division action at Metheny Field House.
The win completes Grove City's season sweep of Geneva. The Wolverines (13-7, 7-4) also maintained their share of first place in the North Division with Wednesday night's triumph.
Junior forward
Brooke McCoy (Irwin, Pa./Hempfield) added 13 points on 5-of-6 shooting as Grove City finished the game 36 of 68 (53 percent) from the field for the game. That is Grove City's highest single-game field goal percentage of the season.
Grove City jumped to a 23-10 lead after one quarter then extended the lead to 23, 42-19, after a three-pointer from sophomore forward
Kailey Devlin (Turbotville, Pa./Watsontown) and a jumper by senior center
Emma Ulmer (Northumberland, Pa./Northumberland Christian).
Geneva trimmed the lead to 46-29 by halftime and then closed the gap to 51-41 four minutes into the second half. However, junior guard
Sarah Pifer (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) helped snuff out the comeback with a three-pointer. McCoy then followed with three consecutive three-point goals as the Wolverines carried a 73-50 lead into the fourth quarter.
Hasley added nine rebounds for Grove City. Sherrerd and junior guard
Bethany Thompson (Exeter Township, Pa./High Point Baptist) both had six rebounds to help the Wolverines accumulate a 45-39 edge on the glass.
Thompson, who made her first start of the season, dished out five assists. Hasley recorded four assists. Grove City finished the game with 20 turnovers while Geneva turned over possession 25 times.
Geneva finished the game 24 of 69 (35 percent) from the field, including 11-for-38 (29 percent) accuracy on three-point attempts. Emily Garvin and Arionna White each scored a team-leading 10 points for Geneva (6-14, 3-8).
Grove City remains tied for first in the North Division with Allegheny. Allegheny pulled out a 55-52 overtime win Wednesday night at Westminster. The Wolverines will host Allegheny next Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
The Wolverines' next outing will be again on the road as they visit South Division power Bethany (14-6, 9-2) in an interdivisional matchup at 1 p.m.
