GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- The Grove City College women's lacrosse team concluded its season-opening weekend trip to Michigan by dropping an 11-9 decision Saturday at Calvin in non-conference action.
Grove City trailed 5-2 in the second quarter but forged a 5-5 halftime deadlock as freshman midfielder
Avery Anderson (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) scored her first goal of the season and junior midfielder
Tori Stevenson (Butler, Pa./Butler) scored twice in a two-minute span.
Calvin led 8-6 after three periods and then pushed the lead to 10-6. Junior midfielder
Jess Robinette (Mohnton, Pa./Twin Valley) scored twice in the fourth quarter but the Wolverines could not complete their comeback.
Robinette led Grove City with four goals and an assist. Stevenson scored three times while senior attack
Jackie Rowell (Laurel, Md./Reservoir) scored once and assisted on two goals.
Grove City outshot the Knights, 26-21. Both teams had 16 shots on goal.
Freshman defender
Gabri Hallam (Buffalo, N.Y./Clarence) caused six turnovers and Stevenson caused three turnovers. Overall, Calvin committed 25 turnovers while Grove City finished with 21 turnovers.
Hallam also led Grove City with seven ground balls and six draw controls.
Senior goalie
Mia Gallagher (Mogadore, Ohio/Archbishop Hoban) made five saves for Grove City (0-2).
Grove City opened the season Friday evening with a 10-9 setback at Hope in Holland, Mich. The Wolverines will open their home schedule Wednesday at 4 p.m. by hosting Oberlin in a non-conference tilt at Don Lyle Field.
