No. 4 R.I.T. outlasts Wolverines

ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Seven Grove City College men's lacrosse players scored goals Saturday at fourth-ranked Rochester Institute of Technology but the host Tigers pulled away in the second half for a 19-10 win over Grove City in non-conference play at Judson Stadium. 

Grove City trailed 9-3 late in the first quarter before surging back with five goals in a six-minute span. 

Senior attack Stewart McClain (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) scored in the final minute of the first quarter and then scored 11 seconds into the second period. Junior midfielder Tyson Bui (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton) scored during the comeback, as did freshmen Mason Lyons (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township) and Tucker Saums (Greensboro, N.C./Northwest Guilford). 

R.I.T. led 10-8 at halftime, then opened the second half by scoring five times in the first 10 minutes of the third period.

McClain led Grove City (2-2) with four goals. Sophomores Tyler Blazek (Las Vegas, Nev./Bishop Gorman) and Ethan Binns (Saint Johns, Fla./The Bolles School) also scored, as did freshman midfielder Zach Moravec (West Chicago, Ill./Wheaton Academy). 

Junior attack Davis Schneider (Winfield, Ill./Wheaton Academy) recorded a season-high five assists. Binns, Moravec and junior midfielder Logan Fox (Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte Christian) also chalked up assists. 

Senior defender Sam Stevenson (Greenwood, Ind./Center Grove) picked up a team-leading six ground balls. He also caused two turnovers. 

Grove City finished the game with 19 turnovers. R.I.T. committed 17 turnovers. The Tigers outshot Grove City, 51-33.

Senior goalie Tyler Gladstone (Marriottsville, Md./Marriotts Ridge) stopped 13 shots for the Wolverines. 

Grove City will visit No. 3 Christopher Newport next Saturday at 12 p.m.
