GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's basketball team dropped a 72-50 decision Saturday afternoon to visiting Washington & Jefferson (14-5, 9-1) in Presidents' Athletic Conference interdivision action at the Grove City College Arena.
Senior center
Meredith Sherrerd (New Braunfels, Texas/New Braunfels) paced Grove City (12-7, 6-4) with 15 points while junior forward
Bethany Thompson (Exeter Township, Pa./High Point Baptist) added seven points.Â
W&J jumped out to a 19-9 lead after one quarter, then held a 32-20 lead at halftime. W&J held Grove City to a 10-for-33 (30 percent) shooting performance in the second half. Overall, Grove City shot 29 percent (17 of 59) from the field.Â
Sophomore forward
Alexis Hudson (Watsontown, Pa./Warrior Run) pulled down six rebounds while Sherrerd grabbed five rebounds. The Presidents outrebounded Grove City, 46-31.Â
Hudson and senior guard
Reese Hasley (Cheswick, Pa./Deer Lakes) both had three assists. Both teams finished with 17 turnovers.Â
Katie Kovalchik led W&J with 18 points. The Presidents shot 27 of 60 (45 percent) from the field.Â
Grove City remains tied with Allegheny atop the conference's North Division. The Wolverines will visit North Division foe Geneva at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.
