Seven wins for Grove City at Western Pa. Invitational

PITTSBURGH, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's swimming and diving team won seven events Friday and Saturday at the unscored Carnegie Mellon Western Pennsylvania Invitational. Grove City highlighted the weekend by winning three of the four relay events held at the two-day event.

Grove City opened the meet by winning the 200 free relay in a time of 1 minute, 23.97 seconds. Junior Owen Hancock (Brunswick, Ohio/Westside Christian), freshman George Witte (Columbia, S.C./Covenant Classical Christian), senior Nathan Beukema (Kensington, Md./Homeschooled) and senior Caleb Einolf (Quakertown, Pa./Quakertown) combined for the relay victory.

Hancock, Einolf, Beukema and junior Bryce Pope (Wilmington, Del./Delaware Valley Classical) teamed to win the 400 medley relay Friday night with a time of 3:25.09. That foursome then opened Saturday's session by winning the 200 medley relay in a time of 1:31.03.

Witte added wins in both the 200 backstroke (1:56.05) and 200 free (1:43.02). Einolf won the 100 breaststroke in a pool-record time of 54.69 seconds while Hancock captured the 100 butterfly in a time of 49.95 seconds. 

Einolf added two runner-up finishes. He placed second in the 50 free (20.60) and 100 butterfly (50.01). Beukema, Hancock, Einolf and Witte finished second in the meet-ending 400 free relay after recording a time of 3:05.55.

Freshman Patrick Cratty (Latrobe, Pa./Latrobe) took second in the 200 free (1:47.11). Freshman Connor Morgan (Bloomsburg, Pa./Central Columbia) earned second in the 1650 with a time of 17:20.26. He finished one spot ahead of senior Sam Thayer (Canton, Ohio/Massillon Jackson), who posted a time of 17:55.72.

Hancock also finished third in the 100 free with a time of 47.39 seconds. Senior Logan Myers (Middleburg, Fla./Homeschooled) finished third in the 400 individual medley (4:14.23) while sophomore Aidan McCarthy (Knoxville, Tenn./Christian Academy of Knoxville) took third in the 200 free (1:47.73) to join Witte and Cratty in a 1-2-3 Grove City sweep.

The Wolverines return to dual meet action next Friday at 6 p.m. when Grove City hosts Calvin in non-conference action.
