Grove City edged on road, 81-75

LATROBE, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's basketball team shot 51 percent from the field Saturday afternoon at Saint Vincent but the host Bearcats pulled out an 81-75 home win over the Wolverines in Presidents' Athletic Conference interdivisional action at the Carey Center. 

The Wolverines finished 30 of 59 from the field, including 23-for-39 (59 percent) accuracy inside the three-point line.

Senior guard Mike Christenson (Oakton, Va./Trinity) poured in a game-high 29 points on 12-of-18 shooting for Grove City while senior guard Kyle Randle (Willowick, Ohio/Eastlake North) added 13 points. Junior center Austin Johncour (Sewickley, Pa./Avonworth) went 4 of 5 from the field while contributing nine points. 

Grove City trailed 45-33 at halftime but used a 10-1 run in the second half to pull within two, 64-62, with 7:30 left. Junior guard Colton Martin (Centerburg, Ohio/Centerburg) drained a three-pointer and a jumper on consecutive possessions while Christenson followed with a layup. Johncour split two free throws and junior forward Caleb Haller (Delaware, Ohio/Marion Hawks) converted a pair of foul shots. 

Haller pulled in seven rebounds while Christenson collected six rebounds. Each team had 32 rebounds. Haller, Randle and senior forward David Olinger (Glenside, Pa./Phil-Mont Christian) all had four assists.

Saint Vincent finished the game 29 of 62 (47 percent) on field goal attempts. The Bearcats had 12 turnovers while Grove City committed 19 turnovers.

Mike Iuzzolino led Saint Vincent (10-7, 5-3) with 21 points. 

Grove City (6-11, 3-5) opens the second half of the conference schedule Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. by hosting Hiram in North Division play.
