GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's basketball team held visiting Thiel to 30 percent (16 of 53) shooting from the field Wednesday night as the host Wolverines earned a 67-47 victory in Presidents' Athletic Conference North Division action at the Grove City College Arena.
Senior guard
Mike Christenson (Oakton, Va./Trinity) posted 25 points while senior guard
Kyle Randle (Willowick, Ohio/Eastlake North) tossed in a dozen points for Grove City. The Wolverines also received nine points and 11 rebounds from junior center
Austin Johncour (Sewickley, Pa./Avonworth).
Grove City used an early 26-4 run to take control of the game. Junior guard
Colton Martin (Centerburg, Ohio/Centerburg) sparked the blitz with a layup while Christenson followed with consecutive three-pointers. Following a short jumper by freshman center
Ethan Hart (Marriottsville, Md./Liberty), Martin again scored in the paint to give Grove City a 15-7 lead.
Randle, Johncour and junior forward
Caleb Haller (Delaware, Ohio/Marion Hawks) all added field goals in the paint as the lead grew to 21-7. Randle later bombed in a three-pointer as Grove City took a 29-9 lead with six minutes left in the half.
Christenson's fadeaway jumper at the buzzer gave Grove City a 37-16 halftime lead.
Freshman forward
Josh Book (Slippery Rock, Pa./Slippery Rock) gave Grove City its largest lead of the game, 55-27, with a three-point play midway through the second half.
Martin pulled in nine rebounds and Haller had six rebounds as Grove City accumulated a 52-40 edge in rebounds. Martin also had three steals for the Wolverines.
Grove City finished the game with 10 turnovers. The Wolverines shot 26 of 71 (37 percent) from the field for the game.
Kenny Ermat led Thiel with 20 points. Thiel committed 15 turnovers.
Grove City (6-10, 3-4) will visit South Division power Saint Vincent in an interdivisional conference game Saturday in Latrobe.
