GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Three Grove City College swimmers earned Presidents' Athletic Conference weekly honors Monday afternoon in recognition of their respective performance Saturday in dual meet victories at Penn State Behrend.
Freshman
Abigail Vance (Butler, Pa./Butler) earned Swimmer of the Week in women's swimming and diving. The Grove City men's swimming and diving program swept this week's awards as junior
Owen Hancock (Brunswick, Ohio/Westside Christian) captured Swimmer of the Week and freshman
George Witte (Columbia, S.C./Covenant Classical Christian) merited Newcomer of the Week.
Vance helped lead Grove City to a 179-105 win at Behrend by securing three individual wins. She won the 100 breaststroke in a time of 1 minute, 9.42 seconds and then took the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:29.55. Vance then posted a winning time of 2:16.13 in the 200 individual medley.
Hancock and Witte helped the men's team to a 188-100 victory over Penn State Behrend. Hancock chalked up three individual wins and two pool records Saturday . He won the 100 backstroke in 52.41 seconds, then prevailed in the 100 free (47.92) and 100 butterfly (51.69).
Hancock also led off Grove City's winning 200 medley relay, which posted a pool-record time of 1:32.36. His split of 23.18 seconds is the fastest 50 backstroke in Behrend pool history.
Witte won the 200 free at Penn State Behrend with a time of 1:46.51. He also contributed to a win in the 200 free relay (1:26.16). Additionally, Witte took second in the 200 backstroke (1:58.65) and 200 individual medley (2:02.63).
This is Witte's fifth Newcomer of the Week award this year. It is Hancock's first career Swimmer of the Week award. Vance previously earned Women's Swimmer of the Week recognition November 11. She received Newcomer of the Week honors December 8.
The Grove City swimming and diving teams return to action Friday and Saturday at the Carnegie Mellon Invitational.
