ERIE, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's swimming and diving team set three pool records Saturday afternoon on the way to a 188-100 non-conference win at Penn State Behrend in the Junker Centre pool.
Grove City opened the meet by winning the 200 medley relay in a pool-record time of 1 minute, 32.36 seconds. Junior
Owen Hancock (Brunswick, Ohio/Westside Christian), junior
Bryce Pope (Wilmington, Del./Delaware Valley Classical), senior
Caleb Einolf (Quakertown, Pa./Quakertown) and senior
Nathan Beukema (Kensington, Md./Homeschooled) combined for the record-setting win.
Hancock also set a pool record in the 50 backstroke by leading off the relay with a split of 23.18 seconds. Hancock also earned three individual wins, as he prevailed in the 100 backstroke (52.41), the 100 freestyle (47.92) and the 100 butterfly (51.69).
Einolf won the 100 breaststroke in a pool-record time of 56.47 seconds. He also added a win in the 200 breaststroke (2:07.58).
Beukema took first in the 50 free (22.00) while freshman
George Witte (Columbia, S.C./Covenant Classical Christian) won the 200 free with a time of 1:46.51. Sophomore
Aidan McCarthy (Knoxville, Tenn./Christian Academy of Knoxville) recorded a winning time of 5:02.22 in the 500. Junior
C.J. Mayhew (Gaithersburg, Md./Homeschooled) completed the sweep of the freestyle events by winning the 1000 in 10:32.05.
Senior
Logan Myers (Middleburg, Fla./Homeschooled) won the 200 butterfly in a time of 2:01.34. Junior
Andrew Buxbaum (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) placed first in the 200 individual medley (2:01.24).
Pope, Witte, Einolf and sophomore
Ryan Turner (Fombell, Pa./Riverside) closed Saturday's meet by winning the 200 free relay in a time of 1:26.16.
The Wolverines (5-3) will compete in the unscored Carnegie Mellon Invitational next Friday and Saturday.
