PITTSBURGH, Pa. -- Four Grove City College men's basketball players scored in double figures Saturday afternoon but the Wolverines dropped a 67-61 verdict at Chatham in Presidents' Athletic Conference interdivisional play at the Chatham Athletic Center.
Senior forward
Mike Christenson (Oakton, Va./Trinity) fired in 17 points for Grove City while senior guard
Kyle Randle (Willowick, Ohio/Eastlake North) added 16 points. Grove City also received 10 points each from junior center
Austin Johncour (Sewickley, Pa./Avonworth) and junior guard
Colton Martin (Centerburg, Ohio/Centerburg).
Grove City led 48-40 in the second half but Chatham rallied to forge a 54-54 tie with five minutes left. Martin's layup gave Grove City its final lead, 56-54. The Wolverines then missed 12 of their final 13 shots from the field.
The Wolverines went 22 of 64 (34 percent) from the field for the game. Chatham shot 40 percent (22 of 55).
Johncour finished with a double-double as he also grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds. Christenson and junior forward
Caleb Haller (Delaware, Ohio/Marion Hawks) both had seven rebounds as the Wolverines earned a 45-37 edge on the glass.
Christenson also had three steals. Both teams committed 13 turnovers.
Diaun Pinkett led Chatham (10-4, 5-1) with 22 points. Grove City (5-10, 2-4) led 32-28 at halftime.
The Wolverines return to Presidents' Athletic Conference North Division play Wednesday when they host Thiel at 7:30 p.m.
