GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's basketball team remained undefeated in Presidents' Athletic Conference play by earning a 61-33 home win Saturday afternoon over Franciscan in the Grove City College Arena.
Grove City limited Franciscan to 11 of 54 (20 percent) shooting from the field for the game. The Wolverines (10-3, 4-0) also forced 20 Franciscan turnovers.
Senior guard
Reese Hasley (Cheswick, Pa./Deer Lakes) paced Grove City's balanced offensive attack with 11 points while sophomore forward
Alexis Hudson (Watstontown, Pa./Warrior Run) posted 10 points.
Grove City led 15-11 after one quarter, then held Franciscan (3-10, 0-4) without a field goal for the final 8:30 of the first half. Grove City closed the half on a 10-2 run as senior center
Meredith Sherrerd (New Braunfels, Texas/New Braunfels) scored twice during the outburst. Hasley, Hudson and junior guard
Alexa McDole (Evans City, Pa./Mars) also contributed to the run as the Wolverines led 31-17 at halftime.
The Wolverines then closed the third quarter by scoring the final 11 points of the period. Junior forward
Brooke McCoy (Irwin, Pa./Hempfield) buried two free throws while Hudson followed with consecutive layups. Hasley drained a three-pointer and a jumper in the final minute of the quarter to give Grove City a 49-24 lead after 30 minutes.
McCoy finished with nine points while Sherrerd and senior center
Emma Ulmer (Northumberland, Pa./Northumberland Christian) both finished with eight points. Senior center
Katie Hoff (Carnegie, Pa./Our Lady of the Sacred Heart) chipped in six points, giving Grove City 22 total points from the center position Saturday.
Grove City finished the game 28 of 70 (40 percent) from the field. The Wolverines also accumulated a 54-36 edge in rebounds. Hasley and Sherrerd both had seven rebounds while McDole tracked down six rebounds.
Hasley recorded five assists. Grove City finished with 15 turnovers.
Maria McCallen led Franciscan with 12 points.
Saturday's game marked the lone regular season meeting between the teams due to the conference's divisional setup this year. Grove City plays each of its North Division opponents twice and faces each of the six South Division squads once.
Grove City returns to North Division action Wednesday at 6 p.m. with a trip to Allegheny.
