Grove City rolls in conference opener, 8-1

BETHANY, W.Va. -- Three goals in a seven-minute span of the first half Wednesday afternoon helped propel the Grove City College women's soccer team to an 8-1 victory at Bethany in both teams' Presidents' Athletic Conference opener at Don Ault Field. 

Junior forward Hannah Plunkard (Slippery Rock, Pa./Slippery Rock) and freshman midfielder Lauren Muhanna (Moon Township, Pa./Moon) both scored twice for Grove City (2-4-1, 1-0). Junior forward Meghan Tischler (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park), junior midfielder Tori Stevenson (Butler, Pa./Butler), senior midfielder Anna Williams (New Wilmington, Pa./Wilmington) and sophomore midfielder Kiara White (Perkiomenville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) also scored Wednesday. 

Stevenson opened the scoring with an unassisted goal at 13:40. Muhanna scored the first of her two goals at 20:16 after receiving an assist from Stevenson. Thirty-one seconds later, the lead swelled to 3-0 when Stevenson assisted Tischler's first goal of the season.

Bethany pulled to within 3-1 by halftime as Shunnye Christopher scored at 31:06. Grove City answered with five straight goals in the second half. 

Muhanna scored her second goal of the day at 50:33, following a pass from freshman midfielder Ady Waters (Port Clinton, Ohio/Tree of Life). White scored 29 seconds later as she converted a Muhanna assist into her second goal of 2025. 

Plunkard's unassisted goals at 74:16 and 89:06 sandwiched around the Williams goal, which came at 83:09.

Grove City earned a 24-16 advantage in total shots, including a 15-5 margin in the second half. Grove City had 18 shots on goal while Bethany (1-5, 0-1) finished with eight shots on goal. Grove City accumulated a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks.

Junior goalkeeper Maddie Mills (Niskayuna, N.Y./Niskayuna) made seven saves to secure her second victory of the season.

Grove City will open the home portion of its conference schedule Saturday at 1 p.m. when the Wolverines host Allegheny at Don Lyle Field.
