Ryan Merrick (Cranberry Township, Pa./Eden Christian) rang up a pair of goals Tuesday night while classmates
Noah Gray (Glen Mills, Pa./The Christian Academy) and
Carlo Denis (Greensburg, Pa./Greensburg Central Catholic) also scored to help the Grove City College men's soccer team earn a 4-1 victory at Bethany in both teams' Presidents' Athletic Conference opener at Don Ault Field.
Denis gave Grove City (4-2-1, 1-0) the lead 62 seconds into the game when he scored after receiving an assist from senior midfielder
Matt Herrmann (Hilton, N.Y./Paul V. Moore). It is Denis's first goal of 2025.
Bethany tied the game seven minutes later when Ian Stempler scored an 8:03. However, the Wolverines reclaimed the lead for good at 16:04 when Merrick scored the first of his two goals. Junior defender
Theo Campbell (Robinson Township, Pa./Robinson Township Christian) assisted Merrick's goal.
Grove City sewed up the win with a pair of goals in a five-minute span of the second half. Merrick scored an unassisted goal at 52:43 while Gray's unassisted score at 57:57 closed the scoring.
The Wolverines outshot Bethany, 21-6, including a 9-2 advantage in shots on goal. Bethany (1-4-2, 0-1) recorded five corner kicks and Grove City had four corners.

Anthony D'Ippolito (Mars, Pa./Eden Christian) made one save to earn his first collegiate victory.
Grove City will host conference foe Allegheny at 3:30 p.m. Saturday.
