Leslie fans 12 as Grove City advances

WASHINGTON, Pa. -- Senior pitcher David Leslie (Butler, Pa./Butler) picked an ideal time for his first complete game of the 2025 season.

The senior right-hander struck out 12 men in nine innings Thursday night to help lift the Grove City College baseball team to a 3-1 win over No. 3 seed Allegheny in the second round of the Presidents' Athletic Conference Championship Tournament, held at Ross Memorial Park. Leslie (9-1) struck out the final three men he faced in the ninth, finishing off a four-hitter.

Allegheny hurler Walker Cunningham held Grove City to only six hits but the Wolverines (29-10) maximized their opportunities. Grove City grabbed a 1-0 lead in the second inning as senior right fielder Josh Minnich (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) singled, moved to second base on a wild pitch and scored on a single by second baseman Luke Vittone (Seven Fields, Pa./Eden Christian).

Sophomore catcher Adam Weber (McKees Rocks, Pa./Montour) gave second-seeded Grove City a 2-0 lead in the fourth inning when his groundout scored freshman DH Kallen Durbin (Harmony, Pa./Seneca Valley).

Allegheny cut the lead in half with a run in the top of the seventh but Grove City answered in the next half inning. Weber reached on a hit batsman and later scored on a groundout from junior center fielder Nick Sampson (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township).

Sophomore third baseman Sam Bevin (Louisville, Ky./Wake County) went 2 for 4 to help pace Grove City's offense.

Grove City is now the only 2-0 team remaining at the six-team conference tournament. Allegheny, Saint Vincent, Washington & Jefferson and Westminster are all 1-1. Saint Vincent eliminated Thiel in Thursday's opener by picking up a 15-12 win in 10 innings. Westminster stayed alive with a 5-4 win over W&J in the second game of the day.

Grove City will play either Allegheny or W&J at 6 p.m. Friday in the third day of action at the tournament.
