MORGANTOWN, W.Va. -- The Grove City College men's track and field team earned its third straight Presidents' Athletic Conference outdoor title by accumulating 157 team points Thursday and Friday. The Wolverines accumulated a 39.5-point margin of victory over runner-up Allegheny in the meet, held at West Virginia University's Mylan Park.
Grove City scored points in 17 of the 19 events while producing four event victories.
Graduate student
Gabe Dunlap (Harrison City, Pa./Penn-Trafford) won the javelin with a best toss of 188 feet, 1 inch while senior
Ryan Lenhart (New Castle, Pa./Shenango) won the discus with a top throw of 158-6.
Junior
Alex Mitchell (Hummelstown, Pa./Harrisburg Christian) won the 400 meters in a school-record time of 47.37 seconds. The Wolverines also set a school record in the 1600 relay as freshman
Jeremiah Knowles (Ephrata, Pa./Ephrata), junior
Isaac Busler (Butler, Pa./Butler), junior
Isaac Young (Jordan, Minn./Jordan) and junior
Greg Wilson (Akron, Ohio/Reveres) combined for a winning time of 3:19.56.
Senior
Nick Petucci (Altoona, Pa./Altoona) earned second in the triple jump with a best leap of 45-2 1/2. Lenhart took second in the shot put (48-10 1/4) while junior
Ethan Wiley (Mercer, Pa./Mercer) fired the javelin 181 feet, 6 inches to claim second place.
Knowles added a third-place finish in the 400 (49.60) while junior
Tucker Owens (Gainesville, N.Y./Letchworth) notched third-place finishes in both the javelin (174-1) and pole vault (13-3 1/2).
Freshman
Brandon Kendrew (Harmony, Pa./Seneca Valley) finished third in the 110 high hurdles with a time of 15.90 seconds. Junior
Michael Singley (Duncannon, Pa./Susquenita) finished third in the 3000 steeplechase (9:49.27) and classmate
Luke Roberts (Post Falls, Idaho/Post Falls) took third in the 10,000 meters (32:55.47).
Mitchell also recorded a fourth-place finish in the 200 meters (21.87). Young took fourth in the 800, chalking up a time of 1:55.39. Junior
Jacob Colbert (Sagamore Hills, Ohio/Nordonia) finished fourth in the 5000 (15:56.10). Freshman
William Britton (Westfield, Ind.) cleared 12-9 1/2 in the pole vault, good for fourth place.
Kendrew captured fifth in the 400 hurdles (58.77) while senior
Andrew Coffee (Salem, Ohio/West Branch) placed fifth in the 110 high hurdles with a time of 17.28 seconds. Senior
Jonah DeWitt (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) earned fifth in the 10,000 (33:22.75) while junior pole vaulter
Michael Chambers (Bridgeville, Pa./Canon-McMillan) cleared 11-9 3/4 to claim fifth place.
Dunlap, Knowles, Mitchell and Wilson combined to finish sixth in the 400 relay (42.91). Busler took sixth in the 800 (1:58.27) while Roberts came in sixth place in the 5000 (16:06.45).
Junior
Alex Barbetta (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) finished seventh in the 110 hurdles (17.84) while sophomore
Jacob Call finished seventh in the 800 with a time of 1:59.88. Freshman
Caleb Haley (Mechanicsville, Va./Atlee) took seventh in the triple jump with a mark of 41-5.
Petucci added an eighth-place finish in the long jump (20-6 1/4) while Mitchell placed eighth in the 100 meters. Coffee finished eighth in the 400 hurdles (60.06).
Freshman
Gabriel Bibawy (Sunbury, Ohio/Big Walnut) finished eighth in the steeplechase (10:08.00) while classmate
Brock Beachem (Butler, Pa./Moniteau) earned eighth place with a throw of 157-7 in the javelin. Freshman
Eli Miller (Wheeling, W.Va./Wheeling Park) added an eighth-place arrival in the 800 meters (2:00.93).
Grove City also won the conference title in indoor track and field in February. This is the second straight academic year in which Grove City has swept the indoor and outdoor titles in men's track and field.
Several men have qualified for the All-Atlantic Championships, which will be held May 14-15 in Williamstown, Mass., at Williams College.
