Grove City sending 31 to All-Atlantic Championships

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College outdoor track and field teams will send 31 athletes to the All-Atlantic Region Track and Field Conference Championships, which will be held Wednesday and Thursday at Williams College in Williamstown, Mass. Fourteen members of the Grove City men's track and field squad have qualified for the two-day meet, as have 17 members of the women's team. 

Grove City will compete in all three relay events in the men's competition. The 400-meter relay team posted a season-best time of 42.91 seconds at the Presidents' Athletic Conference Championships earlier this month. Graduate student Gabe Dunlap (Harrison City, Pa./Penn-Trafford), junior Alex Mitchell (Hummelstown, Pa./Harrisburg Christian), freshman Jeremiah Knowles (Ephrata, Pa./Ephrata), junior Michael Chambers (Bridgeville, Pa./Canon-McMillan) and junior Greg Wilson (Akron, Ohio/Revere) have been entered as Grove City's potential 4x100 participants. 

Knowles, Wilson, junior Isaac Busler (Butler, Pa./Butler), senior Isaac Young (Jordan, Minn./Jordan), sophomore Jacob Call and freshman Eli Miller (Wheeling, W.Va./Wheeling Park) are Grove City's entrants for the 1600 relay. Grove City's top season time in that event, 3:19.56, also came at the conference championships.

Busler, Call, Miller and Young comprise Grove City's 3200-meter relay squad. 

Mitchell will also run the 400 meters, having posted a season-best time of 47.37 seconds at the conference championships. Two men will represent Grove City in the 10,000 meters, senior Jonah DeWitt (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) and junior Luke Roberts (Post Falls, Idaho/Post Falls). DeWitt recorded a top time of 32:15.63 April 4 at Slippery Rock University's Dave Labor Invitational. Roberts finished the 10,000 in 32:55.47 at the conference championships. 

Dunlap will also be one of four men competing in field events at the All-Atlantic Championship. Dunalp qualified in the javelin with a season-best throw of 188 feet, 1 inch April 16 at the Grove City Invitational. Junior Tucker Owens (Gainesville, N.Y./Letchworth) will join Dunlap in the javelin, having posted a season-best throw of 174-2 at the conference championships.

Senior Nick Petucci (Altoona, Pa./Altoona) qualified in the triple jump by posting a top of leap of 45-2 1/2 at the conference meet. Classmate Ryan Lenhart (New Castle, Pa./Shenango) qualified in the discus and shot put. He recorded a top throw of 167-1 in the discus last Thursday at Allegheny College's Marty Goldberg Invitational. Lenhart also owns a top shot put performance of 49-2 1/2, set March 28 at Carnegie Mellon.

The women's team will also be entered in each of the three relay events. Senior Carolyn Colteryahn (Essex, Vt./Essex), sophomore Hannah Costa (Harrisburg, Pa./Harrisburg Christian), freshman Nadine Lauffer (New Castle, Pa.), freshman Kiara White (Perkiomenville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) and freshman Lucy Gyergyo (Wexford, Pa./Eden Christian) are Grove City's five eligible participants for the 400-meter relay. Grove City recorded a season-best time of 48.94 seconds at the conference championships. 

Lauffer, White, senior Lydia Bennett (Bethel, Maine/Gould Academy), senior Kaylynn Johnson (Otisfield, Maine/Oxford Hills), junior Audrey Karwowski (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) and freshman Megan Marchand (Cumming, Ga./Forsyth Central) are entered in the 1600-meter relay. The relay earned the invitation to the All-Atlantic meet by recording a time of 3:58.08 at the conference championships. 

Bennett, Johnson, senior Grace Smith (Dover, Ohio/Dover), sophomore Cayla Lawrence (Mendon, N.Y./Honeoye Falls-Lima) and freshman Julianna Lindberg (Manheim, Pa./Manheim Central) have been entered in the 3200-meter relay. 

White will also compete in the 100- and 200-meter dashes. She recorded a season-best time of 12.22 seconds April 11 at Westminster, then posted a time of 25.49 at the conference championships. 

Karwowski and Lauffer will both run in the 400 meters. Karwowski posted a top time of 59.62 seconds at the conference championships while Lauffer ran a 56.76 at that same event. Lauffer will also compete in the 400 hurdles, having produced a best time of 1:06.72 April 4 at Slippery Rock.

Bennett will compete in both the 800 and 1500 at the All-Atlantic Championships. She recorded an 800-meter time of 2:14.40 at the April 16 Grove City Invitational and a season-best time of 4:27.84 in the 1500 at the conference championships. 

Johnson, Lawrence and Smith will join Bennett in the 1500. Johnson (4:40.23) and Lawrence (4:37.87) both recorded their top 1500 time this season last Thursday night at Baldwin Wallace. Smith recorded a time of 4:44.36 at the conference championships. 

Smith and classmate Ella Lyle (Hurricane, W.Va./Ignite) will both compete in the 3000 steeplechase. Smith recorded a time of 10:48.95 April 12 at Bucknell while Lyle also posted her season-best clocking of 10:59.01 at Bucknell. 

Grove City will also have two competitors in the 10,000 meters, seniors Julia Bauer (Pittsburgh, Pa./Woodland Hills) and Virginia Williams (Copley, Ohio/Copley). Bauer's top 10,000 time (39:27.08) came at the conference championships while Williams recorded a time of 39:24.57 at SRU. 

The Wolverines will have entrants in three field events. Gyergyo qualified in the triple jump with a best mark of 36-1 1/2, set at the conference championships. Sophomore Elly Bruner (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) will compete in the high jump after clearing 5-3 1/2 at the Westminster Invitational April 11. 

Meanwhile, freshman Hannah Herrmann (Hilton, N.Y./Paul V. Moore) cleared 11-1/4 in the pole vault at Baldwin Wallace).

Action begins at 10 a.m. Wednesday and Thursday at the All-Atlantic Championships.
