GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's tennis team earned a berth in the Presidents' Athletic Conference Championship Tournament title match by picking up a 4-0 home victory Thursday afternoon over third-seeded Franciscan in the tournament semifinals at Walters-Zbell Courts.
Grove City (11-4) will visit top-seeded Allegheny in Saturday afternoon's title match. Allegheny defeated fourth-seeded Saint Vincent in the other semifinal fray Thursday, 4-0, in Meadville.
Second-seeded Grove City secured the doubles team point by picking up victories at first and third doubles. The Wolverines clinched the team win by prevailing in three singles matches.
Freshman
Allen Morris (Perry, Ohio/Perry) won 6-0, 6-4 at second singles while freshman
Garrett Ranney (Wooster, Ohio/Wooster) won by retirement at fifth singles. He won the first set by a 6-1 score. Sophomore
Eric Jordan (Landisville, Pa./Hempfield) nailed down a 6-1, 6-2 win at sixth singles to help send Grove City into the championship round.
Allegheny defeated Grove City during the regular season, 7-0, when the teams met April 3 at Walters-Zbell Courts. It is the third straight season in which the teams will meet in the conference tournament title match.
Saturday's winner receives the conference's automatic berth in the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament, which will be held in May.
