Camels edge Grove City, 15-13

SPARKS, Md. -- The Grove City College men's lacrosse team dropped a 15-13 decision Saturday evening in non-conference action to Connecticut College at U.S. Lacrosse headquarters. 

Graduate student midfielder Luke Jayne (Vero Beach, Fla./Saint Edward's) paced Grove City (9-7) with four goals while senior midfielder Zachary Hougan (Springboro, Ohio/Springboro) pumped in three goals. Junior attack Stewart McClain (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) and sophomore midfielder Tyson Bui (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton) both scored twice. 

Grove City also received goals from senior midfielder Alec Jones (Chesterfield, N.J./Notre Dame) and sophomore attack Sawyer Strong (Westfield, Ind./Westfield). Jones and Hougan both had one assist while senior attack Matt Blythe (Mendon, N.Y./Honeoye Falls-Lima) recorded a pair of assists. 

Grove City trailed 3-0 early but two Jayne goals highlighted a five-goal outburst. Hougan, McClain and Strong also scored to help the Wolverines take a 5-3 lead. Connecticut College forged a 7-7 tie by halftime.

Grove City outshot the Camels, 38-35, including a 25-23 margin in shots on goal. Graduate student goalie Danny Stone (Chantilly, Va./Flint Hill) made eight saves in 58:49 of action. Junior Tyler Gladstone (Marriottsville, Md./Marriotts Ridge) played the final 71 seconds in goal. 

Senior midfielder Trey Zabroski (Mountain Top, Pa./Crestwood) and graduate student Luke Rios (Centennial, Colo./Cherry Creek) each had a team-high five ground balls. Rios won 11 of 17 faceoffs while junior Colton Lehberg (Rancho Santa Fe, Calif./Santa Fe Christian) won 11 of 15 faceoffs. Lehberg and sophomore Logan Fox (Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte Christian) both picked up four ground balls. 

Sophomore midfielder Evan Curry (Huntington Beach, Calif./Mater Dei) caused two turnovers. Connecticut College finished the game with 18 turnovers while Grove City had 25 turnovers. 

The Wolverines will visit Saint Vincent at 6 p.m. Wednesday in Presidents' Athletic Conference play.
