BEAVER FALLS, Pa. -- The Grove City College baseball team improved to 5-1 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference by taking both ends of a doubleheader Saturday afternoon at Geneva. The Wolverines won the opener, 7-2, and then captured a 9-4 victory in the nightcap at 33rd Street Field.
Senior pitcher
David Leslie (Butler, Pa./Butler) earned the win in Game One by pitching seven shutout innings. Leslie (5-1) struck out a career-high 14 men while allowing only two hits.Â
Sophomore DH
Sam Bevin (Louisville, Ky./Wake County) paced Grove City's offense by going 4 for 5 with three doubles. Senior catcher
Sam DiStefano (Fairview, Pa./Fairview) went 3 for 5. Senior right fielder
Josh Minnich (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) and senior third baseman
Shane Cato (New Castle, Pa./Shenango) both doubled and singled.Â
Bevin scored on an error in the fifth inning to give the Wolverines (14-7) a 1-0 lead. He then doubled in DiStefano in the sixth inning. Senior second baseman
Luke Vittone (Seven Fields, Pa./Eden Christian) doubled the lead to 4-0 in the seventh inning when he belted a two-run homer.Â
Minnich's two-run double in the eighth inning scored both Bevin and freshman shortstop
Sam Meredith (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan). In the top of the ninth inning, Bevin doubled in sophomore pinch runner

Dash Lanzilotta (Northfield, Ohio/Nordonia) allowed an unearned run in the eighth. He struck out two men. Sophomore
David Gallagher (Coraopolis, Pa./Montour) yielded a run in the ninth.Â
Vittone and Cato both launched two-run homers in the sixth inning of Game Two, helping Grove City break open the game. Junior first baseman
Colin Marinpetro (Imperial, Pa./West Allegheny) added a seventh-inning solo homer for the Wolverines, who finished with a dozen hits.Â
Vittone also doubled. Meredith went 2 for 4 while Bevin, Marinpetro and Minnich all finished 2 for 5. Cato, Marinpetro and Meredith all scored two runs.Â
Bevin earned the win by pitching six innings. He allowed two earned runs and eight hits. Sophomore pitcher
Bryce Trischler (Mars, Pa./Shady Side Academy) pitched the final three innings for his first collegiate save. Trischler struck out four while yielding an unearned run and two hits.Â
Trischler is the fifth different Grove City pitcher to record a save this season. Vittone now has 14 career home runs, which ties him for fourth on Grove City's career list with John Senkowitz (1984-87). Vittone leads Grove City with three home runs this year.Â
Grove City begins a nine-game homestand Wednesday when the Wolverines host Washington & Jefferson at 1 p.m.
