Grove City maintains conference lead

MEADVILLE, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's lacrosse team improved to 3-0 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference by capturing a 9-5 win Wednesday evening over host Allegheny at the Gators' Blue Turf facility. 

The Wolverines limited Allegheny (2-6, 1-1) to 18 total shots. Grove City (4-5, 3-0) also forced 34 Allegheny turnovers. 

Offensively, five Grove City players scored in the win. Senior midfielder Abby Roetering (Glenelg, Md./Glenelg) fired in three goals while sophomore attack Taylor Blythe (Mendon, N.Y./Honeoye Falls-Lima) and freshman midfielder Mia Mygatt (Silver Spring, Md./Brookewood) both scored twice. 

Sophomore attack Gwen Shilling (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional) and sophomore midfielder Tori Stevenson (Butler, Pa./Butler) each added goals. 

Sophomore midfielder Jess Robinette (Mohnton, Pa./Twin Valley) matched a season high by assisting three goals. Blythe, Roetering, Shilling, junior attack Jackie Rowell (Laurel, Md./Reservoir) and junior defender Reese Hasley (Cheswick, Pa./Deer Lakes) all notched assists. 

Stevenson, Roetering and Blythe all scored in the first five minutes to give the Wolverines a 3-0 lead. The Wolverines led 3-2 after one quarter and held a 5-4 halftime lead. Mygatt scored twice in the fourth period while Roetering's goal with 27 seconds left sealed the win. 

Hasley caused a team-leading five turnovers to help pace Grove City's defensive efforts. Senior defenders Emily Arnold (Ijamsville, Md./Urbana) and Amber Wartman (Ellicott City, Md./Mount Hebron) both caused three turnovers. 

Hasley and senior defender Sarah Jackson (Brookfield, Conn./Brookfield) each picked up six ground balls while Arnold collected four ground balls. 

Senior goalie Elyse Kiggins (Zelienople, Pa./Seneca Valley) stopped nine shots to secure the win. 

Grove City outshot Allegheny, 31-18, including a 23-14 edge in shots on goal. Grove City turned over possession 22 times. The Wolverines never trailed. 

The Wolverines will host Westminster at 12:30 p.m. Saturday in conference action at Don Lyle Field.
