GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's lacrosse team opened its 2025 home schedule Wednesday afternoon by dropping a 16-9 decision to Buffalo State (4-1) in non-conference action at Don Lyle Field.
Grove City trailed 8-6 at halftime but the visiting Bengals outscored Grove City 8-3 over the final 30 minutes.
Sophomore attack
Gwen Shilling (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional) fired in four goals for Grove City while junior attack
Jackie Rowell (Laurel, Md./Reservoir) and senior midfielder
Abby Roetering (Glenelg, Md./Glenelg) both scored twice.

Jess Robinette (Mohnton, Pa./Twin Valley) added a goal, her team-leading 11th score of the season. Sophomore attack
Taylor Blythe (Mendon, N.Y./Honeoye Falls-Lima) assisted two goals while Rowell, Shilling and sophomore midfielder
Tori Stevenson (Butler, Pa./Butler) each tallied an assist.
Robinette gave Grove City a 1-0 lead 4:14 into the game after receiving an assist from Blythe. Buffalo State took a 3-1 lead into the second quarter but Shilling and Roetering both scored in a 29-second span to forge a tie.
Shilling's goal with 17 seconds left in the half cut the Bengals' lead to 8-6.
Senior defender
Sarah Jackson (Brookfield, Conn./Brookfield) caused five turnovers while fellow senior defender
Emily Arnold (Ijamsville, Md./Urbana) caused three turnovers.
Senior goalie
Elyse Kiggins (Zelienople, Pa./Seneca Valley) made seven saves. She also led Grove City with four ground balls. Blythe and Robinette both collected three ground balls.
Senior defender
Amber Wartman (Ellicott City, Md./Mount Hebron) won four draw controls. Shilling had three draw controls.
Buffalo State outshot the Wolverines, 27-22. The Bengals had 23 shots on goal whereas Grove City put 16 shots on goal. Both teams had 23 turnovers.
Grove City will visit Franciscan at 1 p.m. Saturday in the Presidents' Athletic Conference opener.
