UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio -- The Grove City College men's lacrosse team scored seven straight first half goals Wednesday night to take control of its non-conference clash at John Carroll as the Wolverines secured an 18-6 non-conference win at the Blue Streaks' Don Shula Stadium.
Senior attack
Matt Blythe (Mendon, N.Y./Honeoye Falls-Lima) scored four of Grove City's seven goals in the outburst to help the Wolverines grab a 9-2 lead late in the second quarter. Senior midfielder
Jason Muench (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) ignited the blitz with a goal at the 6:30 mark of the first quarter while sophomores
Tyson Bui (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton) and
Davis Schneider (Winfield, Ill./Wheaton Academy) also scored in that span.
Grove City (3-5) led 9-3 at halftime and then pushed the lead to 15-4 by the end of the third quarter. Senior midfielder
Zachary Hougan (Springboro, Ohio/Springboro) scored twice in the third quarter while Bui had a goal and assisted a third quarter goal by freshman midfielder
Ethan Binns (Saint Johns, Fla./The Bolles School) at the buzzer.
Blythe finished with five goals and two assists in his seven-point night. Bui also had seven points as he scored three times and assisted on four other goals. Hougan scored three goals and Binns added a pair of scores.Â

Noah Goad (Hudson, Ohio/Western Reserve) each chalked up an assist.Â
Grove City outshot John Carroll, 45-38, including a 30-25 edge in shots on goal. Graduate student goalie
Danny Stone (Chantilly, Va./Flint Hill) made 11 saves during the first three quarters to record the win. Junior
Tyler Gladstone (Marriottsville, Md./Marriotts Ridge) made eight saves in the final quarter.Â
Stone also led Grove City with six ground balls. Graduate student faceoff specialist
Luke Rios (Centennial, Colo./Cherry Creek) and junior faceoff man
Colton Lehberg (Rancho Santa Fe, Calif./Santa Fe Christian) both had five ground balls. Junior midfielder
Boden Davidson (Scottsdale, Ariz./Scottsdale Christian) collected four ground balls.Â
Rios won 8 of 9 faceoffs while Lehberg prevailed in 8 of 12 faceoffs. Hougan and Stone both caused two turnovers. John Carroll had 17 turnovers while Grove City turned over the ball 21 times.
Grove City returns home to Robert E. Thorn to host Kenyon at 1 p.m. Saturday in non-conference action. Conference play resumes Saturday at 6 p.m. when the Wolverines host W&J.
