JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Grove City College men's lacrosse team closed its three-game Spring Break trip by securing a 16-11 non-conference win Saturday over Eastern at The Bolles School.
Grove City sealed the win by scoring four goals over the final 7:24 of the game. Eastern had pulled to within 12-11 but senior midfielder
Zachary Hougan (Springboro, Ohio/Springboro) scored three consecutive goals to give Grove City a 15-11 lead. Senior midfielder
Alec Jones (Chesterfield, N.J./Notre Dame) assisted the final two Hougan goals, then added an unassisted goal with 93 seconds remaining.
Hougan finished the game with six goals and an assist while sophomore midfielder
Tyson Bui (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton) added four goals and four assists for an eight-point afternoon. Senior attack
Matt Blythe (Mendon, N.Y./Honeoye Falls-Lima) scored three times in the win.
The Wolverines also received goals from graduate student midfielder
Noah Goad (Hudson, Ohio/Western Reserve) and junior attack
Stewart McClain (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter Strasburg).
Jones finished with three assists. Junior faceoff specialist
Colton Lehberg (Rancho Santa Fe, Calif./Santa Fe Christian) assisted a pair of
Tyson Bui goals in the third quarter while senior midfielder
Kobi Bui (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton), senior midfielder
Trey Zabroski (Mountain Top, Pa./Crestwood) and sophomore defender
Nathaniel Clark (Oakwood, Ohio/Oakwood) also recorded assists.
Lehberg and graduate student faceoff specialist
Luke Rios (Centennial, Colo./Cherry Creek) each collected seven ground balls. Rios won 9 of 15 faceoffs while Lehberg claimed 8 of 15 faceoff opportunities.
Tyson Bui and Clark both caused two turnovers. Grove City finished the game with 18 turnovers while Eastern had 20 turnovers.
Grove City held a 62-50 edge in total shots, including a 46-28 advantage in shots on goal. Junior goalie
Tyler Gladstone (Marriottsville, Md./Marriotts Ridge) made a career-high 17 saves to secure the win.
The Wolverines led 4-2 after one quarter, then pushed the lead to 9-5 by halftime.
Grove City's four-game road trip concludes Wednesday at 7 p.m. when the Wolverines visit regional rival John Carroll.
