Eastern edges Grove City in 5 sets

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's volleyball team dropped a 25-19, 21-25, 25-19, 22-25, 15-12 decision Saturday morning to visiting Eastern University in non-conference action at the Grove City College Arena as part of the inaugural Grove City Invitational.

Sophomore Max Gianneski (Butler, Pa./Butler) and freshman Keith Otto (Irwin, Pa./Penn-Trafford) both recorded 13 kills to help pace Grove City (4-7) while junior Tieg Malcolm (New Philadelphia, Ohio/Homeschooled) chalked 11 kills. The Wolverines also received nine kills from senior Quintin Norris (Savannah, N.Y./North Rose-Wolcott).

Sophomore setter Craig Fair (Stevens, Pa./Cocalico) posted a season-best 42 assists.

Defensively, sophomore Andrew Kessler (Jeannette, Pa./Penn-Trafford) led Grove City with seven blocks. Gianneski contributed four blocks while Malcolm and Norris both had three blocks.

Freshman libero Ben McVey (Midlothian, Va./Cosby) accumulated 16 digs. Fair had a dozen digs and Gianneski finished with 10 digs.

The impending weather storm in the region caused the cancelation of Grove City's 4 p.m. match Saturday with Trine.

Grove City will host Saint Vincent in the Presidents' Athletic Conference opener Thursday at 7 p.m.
