GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's volleyball team picked an ideal time to record the program's first five-set victory.
Thursday night, the Wolverines rebounded from a 25-10 defeat in the first set to pull out a 3-2 victory over visiting Saint Vincent in both teams' Presidents' Athletic Conference opener at the Grove City College Arena. Grove City (5-7, 1-0) secured the win by taking the final set, 15-10.Â
Sophomore
Max Gianneski (Butler, Pa./Butler) helped pace the Wolverines with a dozen kills while sophomore
Andrew Kessler (Jeannette, Pa./Penn-Trafford) pounded out 10 kills. The Wolverines also received an eight-kill performance from freshman
Keith Otto (Irwin, Pa./Penn-Trafford) and seven kills from junior
Tieg Malcolm (New Philadelphia, Ohio/Homeschooled).Â
Malcolm also served a season-high six aces. Sophomore setter
Craig Fair (Stevens, Pa./Cocalico) recorded 34 assists.Â
Defensively, Kessler, Malcolm and Otto all recorded five total blocks. Gianneski had three blocks while Fair and senior
Quintin Norris (Savannah, N.Y./North Rose-Wolcott) both had a pair of blocks. Gianneski and Norris both had eight digs while Fair finished with six digs.Â
Grove City will visit Baldwin Wallace for a tri-match Saturday. The Wolverines face the hosts at 11 a.m., then face Houghton at 1 p.m. in non-conference action.
