BALTIMORE, Md. -- The Grove City College men's lacrosse team opened the 2025 season Saturday with an 8-6 setback to No. 2 Salisbury in non-conference action at Under Armour World Headquarters.
Salisbury jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the second quarter but Grove City closed to within a goal late in the third quarter. Senior midfielder
Kobi Bui (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton) opened Grove City's scoring with 2:48 left in the second quarter after receiving an assist from sophomore midfielder
Logan Fox (Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte Christian).
The Wolverines then scored twice in the third quarter. Junior attack
Mac Faircloth (Greensboro, N.C./Page) assisted a goal by senior attack
Matt Blythe (Mendon, N.Y./Honeoye Falls-Lima) with 6:24 remaining, then scored an unassisted man-up goal 91 seconds later.
Salisbury led 5-3 after three quarters and then extended the lead to 8-4 in the fourth quarter. Senior midfielder
Alec Jones (Chesterfield, N.J./Notre Dame) and Faircloth both fired in unassisted goals for the Wolverines, closing the scoring.
Freshman attack
Tyler Blazek (Las Vegas, Nev./Bishop Gorman) added an assist for Grove City, which finished with 35 total shots. Salisbury recorded 37 total shots.
Graduate student goalie
Danny Stone (Chantilly, Va./Flint Hill) made 10 saves for the Wolverines. He and sophomore defender
Nathaniel Clark (Oakwood, Ohio/Oakwood) both led Grove City with four ground balls.
Senior defender
Zach Furry (Springboro, Ohio/Springboro) caused three turnovers. Salisbury turned over possession 18 times while Grove City finished with 21 turnovers.
Junior
Colton Lehberg (Rancho Santa Fe, Calif./Santa Fe Christian) won 6 of 10 faceoffs while graduate student
Luke Rios (Centennial, Colo./Cherry Creek) won five of six faceoff opportunities.
Salisbury won the NCAA Division III title in 2023, then finished 21-1 last season.
Grove City will open its home and Presidents' Athletic Conference schedules Tuesday at 5 p.m. against Bethany at Robert E. Thorn Field.
