Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

SVC takes Round 2; Round 3 Tuesday night

LATROBE, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's basketball team dropped a 57-52 decision Saturday afternoon at Saint Vincent in Presidents' Athletic Conference action at the Carey Center. Grove City will now host Saint Vincent in the conference tournament quarterfinals Tuesday night in the Grove City College Arena.

Grove City (15-10, 13-7) had already secured the No. 4 seed in the conference tournament prior to the game while Saint Vincent (13-12, 12-8) clinched the fifth spot with its win.

Senior guard Mara Polczynski (Irwin, Pa./Norwin) led Grove City with 14 points while senior guard Jaden Davinsizer (Harmony, Pa./Seneca Valley) added nine points on three three-pointers. 

Saint Vincent led 17-14 after one quarter but Grove City surged to a 33-28 lead by halftime. Consecutive three-pointers from freshman guard Kailey Devlin (Turbotville, Pa./Meadowbrook Christian) and senior forward Nevaeh Ewing (Saxonburg, Pa./Knoch) at the outset of the second quarter put Grove City ahead. 

Junior center Meredith Sherrerd (New Braunfels, Texas/New Braunfels) drained a three later in the quarter while junior guard Reese Hasley (Cheswick, Pa./Deer Lakes) scored in the paint to give the Wolverines their five-point halftime lead.

Grove City shot 7 of 24 (29 percent) from the field in the second half. For the game, Grove City drained 18 of 52 (35 percent) field goal attempts. Saint Vincent went 21 of 53 (40 percent) on field goals.

Saint Vincent outrebounded the Wolverines, 39-32. Davinsizer and Polczynski both had five rebounds. Grove City committed 18 turnovers whereas Saint Vincent had 17 turnovers. 

The game featured nine ties and seven lead changes. Camdon Bashor led Saint Vincent with 18 points and 14 rebounds. The Bearcats led 44-41 entering the fourth quarter. 

Grove City defeated Saint Vincent, 59-47, January 18 in the Grove City College Arena. Tuesday's quarterfinal game will tip off at 7 p.m.
