No. 3 Tigers outlast Grove City

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's lacrosse team dropped a 17-11 home decision Saturday afternoon to No. 3 Rochester Institute of Technology (R.I.T.) in non-conference action at Robert E. Thorn Field.

Eight men scored for Grove City, led by a three-goal outing from junior attack Stewart McClain (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter Strasburg). Sophomore midfielder Tyson Bui (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton) scored twice. 

Grove City also received goals from senior attack Kobi Bui (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton), sophomore midfielder Evan Curry (Huntington Beach, Calif./Mater Dei), junior attack Rigdon Greene (Marietta, Ga./Pope), senior attack Zachary Hougan (Springboro, Ohio/Springboro), graduate student midfielder Luke Jayne (Vero Beach, Fla./Saint Edward's) and senior midfielder Alec Jones (Chesterfield, N.J./Notre Dame).

Hougan also assisted three goals while Greene, junior midfielder Mac Faircloth (Greensboro, N.C./Page) and graduate student midfielder Noah Goad (Hudson, Ohio/Western Reserve) all had assists. 

Goals by Tyson Bui and McClain in a 47-second span of the first quarter pulled the Wolverines into a 3-3 tie. R.I.T. reclaimed a 6-3 lead but Kobi Bui and Curry scored to trim the lead to 6-5. 

R.I.T. led 9-5 at halftime and then owned a 15-8 lead after 45 minutes. 

The Tigers held a 46-42 edge in total shots. R.I.T. had 29 shots on goal while Grove City finished with 24. Grove City turned over possession 19 times while R.I.T. had 18 turnovers. 

Hougan led Grove City with four ground balls. Graduate student Luke Rios (Centennial, Colo./Cherry Creek) won 11 of 17 faceoffs while junior Colton Lehberg (Rancho Santa Fe, Calif./Santa Fe Christian) won 9 of 14 faceoff opportunities. Jones caused two turnovers. 

Graduate student Danny Stone (Chantilly, Va./Flint Hill) made 12 saves in goal. 

Ethan Harkins led R.I.T. with six goals. R.I.T. finished as NCAA Division III runner-up in 2024. 

Grove City will visit Christopher Newport next Saturday at noon in Newport News, Va.
