GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's basketball team wrapped up its 2024-25 regular season home schedule Saturday afternoon by securing an 85-67 Senior Day victory over visiting Bethany in Presidents' Athletic Conference action at the Grove City College Arena.
Four Grove City players scored in double figures, led by an 18-point outing from senior guard
Chase Yarberough (Lititz, Pa./Warwick). Sophomore center
Isaac Cherry (Sagamore Hills, Ohio/Nordonia) poured in 15 points on 7-of-11 shooting while junior forward
Mike Christenson (Oakton, Va./Trinity) and junior guard
Kyle Randle (Willowick, Ohio/Eastlake North) both added 11 points.
Grove City (15-8, 12-6) trailed 34-27 late in the first half but scored the final 10 points of the period to take a three-point lead at halftime. Sophomore guard
Drew Collins (Washington, Pa./Trinity) and sophomore center
Austin Johncour (Sewickley, Pa./Avonworth) sparked the comeback with consecutive baskets in the paint.
Randle recorded a layup, cutting the lead to 34-33. Senior forward
Russ Gump (Bloomsburg, Pa./Central Columbia) put Grove City ahead to stay with an inside basket while Christenson pushed the lead to 37-34 with a short jumper.
Grove City continued the run in the second half as Yarberough went 3 for 3 at the foul line and Cherry scored after a steal to give the Wolverines a 42-34 lead.
Collins added eight points for the Wolverines, who shot 49 percent (34 of 69) from the field. Bethany made 21 of 56 (38 percent) field goal attempts. Grove City attained a 42-34 edge in rebounds as Cherry, Yarberough and senior forward
John Ward (Indian Land, S.C./Covenant Day, N.C.) all had six boards.
Christenson and Yarberough both dished out five assists. Randle, Ward and senior guard
Jonah Bock (Erie, Pa./Erie) all had three assists. Randle also recorded three steals.
Grove City concluded the game with 10 turnovers. Bethany (7-16, 2-16) had 14 turnovers.
Cole Dailey led Bethany with 15 points and 10 rebounds.
