BEREA, Ohio -- The Grove City College men's volleyball team went 1-1 Saturday in a non-conference tri-match at Baldwin Wallace. Baldwin Wallace topped the Wolverines (6-8) in Saturday's opener, 22-25, 25-23, 25-15, 25-17.
However, Grove City rebounded to sweep Houghton in Saturday's finale at Ursprung Gymnasium, 25-7, 25-9 and 25-22.
Sophomore
Max Gianneski (Butler, Pa./Butler) led Grove City with nine kills against Houghton while sophomore
Andrew Kessler (Jeannette, Pa./Penn-Trafford) added five kills. Gianneski, junior
Tieg Malcolm (New Philadelphia, Ohio/Homeschooled) and freshman
Keith Otto (Irwin, Pa./Penn-Trafford) all served two aces.
Sophomore setter Keith Fair (Stevens, Pa./Cocalico) recorded 18 assists.
Kessler led the defense with six blocks while senior
Quintin Norris (Savannah, N.Y./North Rose-Wolcott) tallied six digs.
Kessler recorded 11 kills against Baldwin Wallace while Gianneski and Otto each had eight kills. Malcolm contributed five kills. Fair accumulated 30 assists.
Freshman libero
Ben McVey (Midlothian, Va./Cosby) recorded 16 digs to lead the defense. Gianneski added eight digs. Kessler chalked five blocks while Norris and sophomore
Carson Good (Jeannette, Pa./Penn-Trafford) both had two blocks.
Grove City returns to Presidents' Athletic Conference action Tuesday night when the Wolverines visit Bethany. The match will start at 6:30 p.m.
