YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- The Grove City College men's indoor track and field team produced numerous notable performances Friday and Saturday at the Youngstown State Mid-Major Invitational, held at Watson and Tressel Training Site (WATTS).
Junior
Alex Mitchell (Hummelstown, Pa./Harrisburg Christian) helped pace Grove City at the two-day meet by earning a pair of wins. Mitchell won the 400 meters in a time of 48.60 seconds and also won the 500 in a school-record time of 1:03.71.
Senior
Ryan Lenhart (New Castle, Pa./Shenango) led Grove City in the field events by finishing sixth in the shot put. Lenhart recorded a best heave of 48 feet 1 3/4 inches, which ranked first among Division III entrants in the event.
Two Grove City pole vaulters tied for seventh as junior
Michael Chambers (Bridgeville, Pa./Canon-McMillan) and freshman
William Britton (Westfield, Ind.) both cleared 12-9 1/2. Lenhart added an eighth-place finish in the weight throw (47-5 3/4). Lenhart finished first among D-III throwers in the weight throw.
Grove City took eighth in the distance medley relay as freshman
Eli Miller (Wheeling, W.Va./Wheeling Park), junior
Isaac Busler (Butler, Pa./Butler), freshman
Joshua Haley (Mechanicsville, Va./Atlee) and sophomore
James Yoho (Woodbridge, Va./Woodbridge) combined for a time of 11:13.68.
Grove City also took 10th in the 1600 relay as freshman
Jeremiah Knowles (Ephrata, Pa./Ephrata), senior
Andrew Coffee (Salem, Ohio/West Branch), junior
Alex Barbetta (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) and sophomore
Garrett Gess teamed for a time of 3:40.73.
Mitchell added a 10th-place finish in the 200 (22.55) while Knowles finished 11th in the 400 with a time of 51.16 seconds. Senior
Nick Petucci (Altoona, Pa./Altoona) placed 11th in the triple jump with a best mark of 42-5 1/4.
The Wolverines return to action February 14 when they travel to Berea, Ohio, for Baldwin Wallace's annual Mid-February Meet.
