Grove City takes Wheaton title

WHEATON, Ill. -- The Grove City College men's swimming and diving team broke three program records Friday and Saturday on the way to winning the team title at the Wheaton College Invitational. Grove City accumulated 885.5 team points to out-distance runner-up Wisconsin-Stevens Point for the title. Stevens Point had 796 points while Wheaton finished the two-day meet with 726 team points.

Grove City swept the five relay events held Friday and Saturday. Junior Owen Hancock (Brunswick, Ohio/Westside Christian), freshman George Witte (Columbia, S.C./Covenant Classical Christian), senior Nathan Beukema (Kensington, Md./Homeschooled) and senior Caleb Einolf (Quakertown, Pa./Quakertown) opened the meet by winning the 200 free relay in a time of 1 minute, 21.88 seconds.

That foursome also won the 400 free relay in a time of 3:01.43. Witte anchored the victorious 800 free relay (7:07.66), which also featured junior Bryce Pope (Wilmington, Del./Delaware Valley Classical), freshman Patrick Cratty (Latrobe, Pa./Latrobe) and sophomore Ryan Turner (Fombell, Pa./Riverside).

Hancock, Pope, Einolf and Beukema set pool, Grove City and Presidents' Athletic Conference records in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:28.32. Hancock, Pope, Einolf and Witte also won the 400 medley relay with a time of 3:19.67.
