Grove City downs Hiram, 65-57

HIRAM, Ohio -- The Grove City College men's basketball team evened its Presidents' Athletic Conference record at 1-1 by earning a 65-57 win Saturday afternoon at Hiram (3-4, 0-2) in a North Division clash at Price Gymnasium. 

Grove City trailed only once, 2-0, in Saturday's victory. Senior guard Mike Christenson (Oakton, Va./Trinity) fired in a game-high 26 points for the Wolverines while junior guard Drew Collins (Washington, Pa./Trinity) pumped in 13 points while making his first collegiate start. 

Grove City led 35-34 at halftime and pushed its lead into double digits midway through the second half with an 9-0 run. Senior guard Kyle Randle (Willowick, Ohio/Eastlake North) started the blitz with two free throws while junior forward Caleb Haller (Delaware, Ohio/Marion Hawks) followed with a pair of foul shots. Collins drilled a three-pointer that pushed Grove City's lead to 54-42 while Christenson's layup closed the spurt. 

Hiram cut Grove City's lead to 61-57 in the final minute but Christenson sealed the win by going 4 of 4 at the foul line. 

Christenson and Collins both collected six rebounds while junior center Austin Johncour (Sewickley, Pa./Avonworth) added five rebounds. Grove City outrebounded Hiram, 38-26. 

The Wolverines shot 42 percent (23 of 55) from the field. Hiram went 18 of 45 (40 percent) on field goal attempts. Hiram had 14 turnovers while Grove City committed 15 turnovers. 

Christenson led Grove City with four steals. He also recorded four assists. Senior forward David Olinger (Glenside, Pa./Phil-Mont Christian) assisted three field goals. 

Drovinsky Ulysse led Hiram with 14 points. 

Grove City (2-5, 1-1) will visit Houghton at 7 p.m. Tuesday in non-conference play.
