DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- The Grove City College women's basketball team improved to 7-2 overall by holding off Widener (8-2) in non-conference action Friday morning at the Ocean Center, 61-60. Grove City trailed 12-2 early before charging back for the victory.

Reese Hasley (Cheswick, Pa./Deer Lakes) fired in a game-high 19 points for Grove City while freshman guard
Kate Kline (Nottingham, Pa./Oxford) added 10 points. Sophomore forward
Kailey Devlin (Turbotville, Pa./Meadowbrook Christian) tossed in nine points for the Wolverines.Â
Grove City closed Widener's lead to 17-11 by the end of the first quarter. The Wolverines scored the first 12 points of the second quarter on the way to a 32-25 halftime lead. Junior forward
Bethany Thompson (Exeter Township, Pa./High Point Baptist) ignited the run with a transition layup while freshman guard
Haley Mach (Hillsdale, Mich./Jonesville) followed with two free throws. Junior forward
Brooke McCoy (Irwin, Pa./Hempfield) tied the game with a jumper. Hasley followed with a driving layup that gave Grove City a 19-17 lead with 3:34 left in the half.Â

Alexis Hudson (Watsontown, Pa./Warrior Run) closed the outburst. Kline's three-pointer at the first half buzzer gave Grove City its seven-point lead.
Kline's field goal with 15 seconds left in the third quarter and Devlin's buzzer-beating three-pointer gave Grove City its largest lead, a 50-33 margin at the end of 30 minutes.
Grove City finished 23 of 66 (35 percent) from the field while Widener hit 22 of 64 (34 percent) field goal attempts. Grove City amassed a 51-40 edge in rebounds. Senior center
Meredith Sherrerd (New Braunfels, Texas/New Braunfels) led the Wolverines with nine rebounds while Hasley collected eight rebounds. Senior center
Emma Ulmer (Northumberland, Pa./Northumberland Christian) added six caroms.Â
Mach recorded a team-leading three assists. Grove City had 26 turnovers while Widener had 19 turnovers.
Lindsay Kutz and Riley Stackhouse each had 14 points for Widener, which shot 13 of 22 at the foul line. Grove City went 11 of 16 at the foul line. The game featured 44 total fouls, 23 on Grove City and 21 on Widener.Â
Grove City will face Regis (Mass.) at 8 p.m. Saturday in Daytona Beach.
